Posted on 02/05/2019

Show off your Lone Star pride and support of the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo, which starts Feb. 25.

District leaders invite staff, students and parents to celebrate Go Texan Day on Friday, February 22, by dressing up in their best Western outfit.

Go Texan Day has been a tradition since the 1950s and is celebrated across Houston each year the Friday before the rodeo parade. The Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo (HLSR) opens Monday, Feb. 25 and runs through March 17. Rodeo Houston, which attracts more than two million visitors each year, is one of the largest rodeos in the U.S.

In November 2018, Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo officials approved an educational commitment of $27,174,610 to support Texas youth and statewide educational programs in 2019. A majority of the funds will be administered through more than 800 scholarships valued at $14,286,000.
